James Bennett
Sales and Customer Success
I am passionate about sales and customer success. I see them as two complementary roles which are equally important for client happiness and retention. Sales without a pre-prepared onboarding and account management plan will lead to churn and place barriers to future sales. Hence, it is in the organisation’s best interests to have sales managers who understand the full client journey.
My experience of this comes not only from working in sales and customer success but also from experiencing the sales process as a client. The days of client retention because of little-to-no competition have truly passed, especially within the realm of educational technology. Indeed, sales of EdTech have become harder and harder…not just because of slashed budgets within education but due to a huge increase in competition. Why should your clients stay with you when there is competition out there which promises to be better and at a lower price? Outside of EdTech, the markets are even more difficult to navigate.
With data-driven insights leading the sales process these days, the personal touch of an experienced salesperson is more important than ever. Clients want to feel valued and that feeling of value starts at the pre-sale point when to client feels listened to by the salesperson. Too many companies have embraced data at the expense of personal relationships. The key, of course, is to combine them.
[It] is in the organisation’s best interests to have sales managers who understand the full client journey.
I have specialised in consultative sales, listening to the client and leading the client throughout the sales process as a trusted advisor. This has been learnt from a decade spent teaching – where the importance of listening is also under-appreciated – and over a decade in sales and client management.
I look forward to hearing from you to see how to contribute to the team’s growth and success.
